Our story

Co-founder Debbie's son AJ was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2005 at age 14. Managing the condition required juggling injection pens, testing kits, hypo treatments, spare needles, backup kits and more. When AJ transitioned to an insulin pump in 2011, the family struggled to find suitable organisers and accessories—many had to be sourced from the US.

In response, Debbie and business partner Mike launched Pump Fashion Ltd in 2011. The company grew rapidly as thousands of people and parents of type 1 diabetics discovered the same gap in the market.

By 2015, Pump Fashion had the opportunity to acquire Funky Pumpers, a complementary diabetes company founded by Sabrina Dawe in 2011 after her own son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at just 13 months. The merged business adopted the Funky Pumpers name and continued expanding.

In 2025, as Debbie and Mike considered retirement, they approached AJ with an exciting proposition: would he be interested in taking over? Fresh from university and settling into a new area, AJ accepted the opportunity. From being the inspiration behind the company's founding to becoming managing director, AJ now leads Funky Pumpers today.
