Hid-in
Hid-in was founded by Katie Isherwood, who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 22, just as she was starting her final year of a fashion degree at Central St Martins, London. She quickly learned to manage new challenges while building an international career as an underwear designer.
Over two decades, Katie combined diabetes management with an active work and social life, using her insulin pump across interviews, presentations, company dinners, yoga classes, first dates, canoeing trips, wedding banquets and dance classes. She's carried her pump through tight dresses, sarongs and leg-warmers, and more recently through two pregnancies and her DIY Artificial Pancreas System.
When existing accessories didn't fit her outfits or occasions, Katie crafted and customised pieces for herself—garter belts, socks, body bands and pocket panties. This experience revealed a broader need: better options to conceal, carry and access insulin pumps for all people.
Pump therapy is a brilliant way to manage diabetes, yet some avoid it because they don't want to advertise their condition or don't know where to carry it. Katie has never been embarrassed about her diabetes, but she believes people should choose who knows about their condition and when.
Like underwear, an insulin pump is worn close to the body and its appearance, comfort and placement should reflect that intimate nature. Pump accessories belong in an underwear drawer, not a medicine cabinet.
Drawing on her experience as both an underwear designer and someone living with diabetes, Katie created Hid-In: accessories to discreetly hide your insulin kit. The brand offers ways to better fit diabetes into your life, so you don't have to fit your life around diabetes.
